Memory Book Overview
Memory Book Social - March 10 (7:30 - 9:00)
Memory Books are due February 26
~ Memory Book ~
As an eighth grader at Kingsford Middle School, you will be creating a “Memory Book.” It will consist of activities and writing you will be completing in class as well as on your own. Your memory book will be made up of memories and thoughts from your life. The final project will be due after Christmas break, but you must begin now in order to complete it on time with minimum stress.
We will hold a Memory Book Social in March. Parents, friends, and family will be invited to the Kingsford Middle School Cafeteria. Breakfast will be provided and student work will be displayed. I will pass out a handout with students on January 17.
The final project will be typed and presented in a three-ring binder or scrapbook. The size of this will depend on how much material you include in your book. You will include pictures, artwork, schoolwork, and other materials to supplement and enhance your memory book. Plastic “page savers” or photo albums with clear plastic sheets are required to preserve your chapters. See me with any concerns about your binder or pages.
Below you will see an outline of what must be included in your memory book:
I. Portrait Poem
II. Interest Survey
III. Baby/Toddler page
IV. The Elementary Years (Your years in elementary school from kindergarten through fifth grade). This will be a two page essay, typed and double spaced. Write about what you learned, your teachers, special friends, and special activities. Out of school activities may be included!
V. Middle School - Getting accustomed to “big kids” school: teachers, friends, activities, successes, challenges. This will be a two page essay, typed and double spaced.
VI. High School and Beyond- Hopes, wishes, fears, etc., related to your upcoming high school years and beyond. What are your goals for the future? Once again, this will be a two page essay, typed and double spaced.
VII. Wordle
VIII. Letter(s) written to you from Mom, Dad, grandparents and/or brothers and sisters. You may include additional letters from friends if you so choose.
IX. Personal Narrative
The written part of your chapters will be due on the following schedule:
The Elementary Years: September 25
Middle School: November 11
High School and Beyond: December 16
Aim for at least five paragraphs per chapter (introductory paragraph, three paragraphs for the body, and a concluding paragraph). 12 to 14 pt font is preferred. You can type your chapters during study club if need be. Please plan ahead so you have adequate time to do this. Save all chapters so you can go back and make corrections.
** Books will be turned in NO LATER than February 15, 2019
** Memory Book Social will be held in the Middle School Cafeteria on March 6 (7:30-9:00am)
** Please remember that the focus of this project is on the writing process.
